| Q:
How can I expedite my project and reduce unexpected charges? |
Page Layout - For multi-page documents we recommend
InDesign or PageMaker. Although FreeHand can be used to create
multi-page documents, we prefer you save elements from graphics
programs as EPS files and place them in a page layout program.
When creating a document, enter the actual trim size of your
page in the document setup dialog box. Do not create your page
on a larger page and then manually draw in the crop marks. Designate
all bleeds by extending the image 1/8" off the page.
Support Graphics - All files should be created
in the CMYK colorspace. RGB files will be converted to CMYK
for output and may experience a undesirable color shift. The
files that you “place” in your page layout program
are pixel-based graphics (PhotoShop files saved as EPS, TIFF
or DCS), and vector-based graphics (graphics created in draw
programs such as FreeHand and Illustrator and exported as EPS
files). These files, and the source files for the EPS’s,
must always be included on the disk you send us even if you
saved a copy of the file in your page layout. This will allow
us to open a file and edit it if there is a problem. JPEG files
may be used; however it is not a preferred format.
Gradient Screens - If gradient screens are
used in your design, you will get the best results if the screens
are created in PhotoShop. Vector-based programs such as Freehand
are limited to 256 shades of gray and may create a banding effect,
especially over large areas.

| Q:
How should I send photographs? |
Photos that you provide electronically should be scanned with
a resolution of 350 dpi at the size you wish it to be placed.
Once scanned a photo size may be adjusted slightly, however
it is best to scan at the finished size. Do all cropping, rotating
or other art manipulation in the program you used to create
it, or in Photoshop before placing into your document.
Photographs sent in for us to scan should be marked with finished
size, and notes on where to crop. Esprit is not responsible
for incorrect sizing and/or cropping left to our judgement.

| Q:
Do I need to include the fonts used in my file? |
If bold and/or italic fonts are desired, please use the appropriate
named font. Fonts should not be applied bold or applied italic.
Any rework required as a result of font issues will be billed
at current rates.
Be sure to include both the printer font and the screen font
for each typeface you use. There are many versions of the same
font. We need to be working with the exact fonts you used in
your layout to eliminate any possible errors. Remember to include
fonts you used in placed graphics too.
|
| Q:
Do I need to provide a hard copy proof of my file? |
Print a 100% (tiled if necessary) laser proof of the latest
version of the file you are submitting. We will use this proof
to ensure that your job is rendered as you intend. Any instructions
and comments should be written on this proof, such as FPO images
and sizing information.
Print color separations for multi-color projects. Each separation
should be marked with crops, color and page information to ensure
that proper color designations are made. Remember, as an example,
Pantone 320 CV and Pantone 320 CVC are two different colors.
If no separations are supplied Esprit will run laser separations
and send or FAX them to you for approval before we start work
on your job. These will be billed at current rates.

| Q:
How should I prepare "Multiple-up" files? |
When creating files that will run multiple up on a single page,
please create them as single pages at the proper trim size.
Our imposition software will place them the proper distance
apart (example, when creating 4 business cards for the same
company make 4 pages each measuring 3.5” x 2”).
|
| Q:
Can I send files with trapping? |
It is best to send in your files with no trapping done. We will
trap your files so they will look best when printed on our presses.
If your files are already trapped, please let us know as conflicts
will arise if we try to re-trap.
